Sailing Policies

Chequessett boasts a beautiful and very active waterfront area.  To keep everything running smoothly and for the safety of our members and guests, we have the policies listed below:

Boathouse Hours:  The boathouse is manned 2 ½ hours before high tide and 2 ½ hours after high tide during the season.

Members and Guests:  Our waterfront is open to members only. If a member would like to bring a guest to use the beach area or to go on a boat, the member must accompany the guest at all times. Guests cannot take out a member’s boat by themselves if it is launched from our waterfront area.

Rentals:  Sailboats and kayaks may only be rented by Members of Chequessett.

Moorings:  Full Members are entitled to moor boats if they choose. The staff of Chequessett manages the mooring field. Please consult Barbara at 508-349-3704 ext 5 BEFORE putting a mooring in the mooring field area to make sure it fits within our mapping.

Registration and boat storage:  Full members and sailing members may leave a boat in the boatyard if it is actively being used. All members must register their boat, kayak, dinghy, or any other craft at the beginning of each season with a member of the Chequessett staff. All fees must be paid before anyone is allowed to leave any equipment on premises. You will be then given a sticker with a number on it, and it must be affixed to your boat for the entire season. The Chequessett staff will assign your boat storage location as well. Within that location you are entitled to store your boat and any dolly or small trailer that is needed to put the boat in the water. NO trailers of any type that do not meet the above standards may be stored in the boat yard. Please make sure all empty trailers are taken away the day you bring a boat into the yard.

Weddings and Events: We have numerous weddings and outside events on our waterfront. Members may still use the waterfront during events, but we ask that you follow these guidelines.

  • Call ahead to CYCC staff if you would like a sail or rudders moved to the outdoor racks. Sails hanging in the boathouse may NOT be available once an event is setup…and definitely aren’t available once the event is underway. Please plan ahead and we will be happy to retrieve a sail for you before the event.
  • Launch from the ramp, but please do all preparations or de rigging to the right of the boat ramp.
  • If you are using the beach area, please keep all activities to the right of the boat ramp.
  • Please respect the outside event by staying away from and out of the boathouse during the event.

The boathouse is rented at times for functions. We will post ahead of schedule the date and time of the event. If you need to get equipment out of the boathouse, we ask that you call and have a staff member remove it for you at least 2 hours before the function begins. We also ask that you respect the people at the function and use the far side of the beach to launch and come in from sailing.

Moorings and parking lot space:  All spaces are allocated by the waterfront manager and charted. If boats are found in the wrong location, they will be moved. Since space is limited, each member is limited to one larger boat and one smaller boat that will fit on a rack. Other boats may be registered if space permits.

Personal Property:  The boathouse is not manned for much of the day. ALL PERSONAL PROPERTY LEFT ON THE PREMISES IS LEFT AT THE RISK OF THE OWNER. CYCC IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROPERTY IN ANY WAY. We encourage members to lock up all smaller boats and to never leave any property unattended on the beach.

Language:  No abusive or foul language should ever be used while on the premises of CYCC or while participating in a club function. If violations occur, members and guests will be warned. If they persist, they will be asked to leave for the day.
